A Heady Scent

Living in the desert gives me the opportunity to grow cacti. This family of plants are a constant amazement to me. They spend most of their year looking spikey in their solid, quiet, barborous kinda way.

Then in Spring they burst into luxuriant life with the most decadent flowers. This particular cactus blooms at night filling the air with it's heady scent - I wish you could smell it.

Pen and ink and watercolour paints onto tea bag paper. French knots and threads form the stamens with gold lurex fabric and ivory silk slow stitched into an opulent frame. Unfinished edges, a tear in an upcycled envelope all point to the fleeting beauty of this luxurious flower.
