West With Giraffes is based on the true story of the first two giraffes at San Diego Zoo and their 10 day journey across America, from East to West coast.

After surviving the 1938 hurricane that killed hundreds along the Eastern Seaboard, these two giraffes embark on a sometimes dangerous journey across land, with Patches nursing an injured leg.

This heartfelt story is an insight not only into the nature of giraffes, but the hardships suffered in America after the Great Depression.

I won’t spoil the plot in case you do want to read the book, it’s a real page turner at times, I highly recommend it for animal lovers.
